On November 30, 1987, 1.3 million voices rose as one in support of Kim Dae-jung and the dream of democracy.

In that same unshakable spirit, democracy will rise again—on June 2 at 7 p.m., at the Culture Square in Yeouido Park.

There, we will remember the long, unfinished journey:

— 35 years of Japanese colonial rule,

— the joy of liberation in 1945, denied by foreign partition,

— the Cold War’s grip when the U.S. fractured our nation under the weight of its Northeast Asia strategy,

— and the scars of a three-year war that tore our land and families apart.

And yet, through every trial, the people stood firm.

And from the rubble, we built democracy.

Now, a new crossroads lies before us.

This may be our final chance to secure a democracy that is truly our own, and a sovereign state that answers only to its people.

It is the most sacred and joyful task of our generation.

History is not moved by the powerful—it is carried forward by the unity of the powerless.
Let us rise together and prove it, once more.

기억하십시오.

1987년 11월 30일, 130만 시민이 김대중을 지지하며 거리로 나섰습니다. 자유와 정의, 민주주의를 향한 열망이 그날 여의도 광장을 가득 메웠습니다.

이제 그 정신이 다시 뜁니다. 6월 2일 오후 7시, 우리는 여의도공원 문화의 마당에서 이번 대선의 마지막 유세로 모입니다.

그 자리에서 우리는 다시금 기억할 것입니다:

35년 일제 식민지의 고통,

1945년 해방의 기쁨을 만끽하지 못한 민족,

미국이 동북아 냉전 질서 속에 강요한 분단,

그리고 그 뒤를 이은 비극의 한국전쟁.

그 모든 시련 속에서도 우리는 무릎 꿇지 않았습니다.

우리는 독재에 맞서 싸웠고, 민주주의를 세웠으며,

주권을 향한 불꽃을 꺼뜨리지 않았습니다.

그리고 지금, 우리는 다시 한 번 역사의 부름을 받았습니다.

이번이야말로 진정한 민주주의와 자주국가를 세울 마지막 기회입니다.

이 시대를 살아가는 우리가 반드시 이뤄내야 할 가장 숭고하고 기쁜 임무입니다.

역사는 권력이 아닌,

가장 약한 이들의 연대에 의해 움직입니다.

우리가 그 진실을 다시 한 번 증명합시다.

우리는 미국의 전쟁 위한 항공모함도 미국의 미래 전쟁위한 전초기지도 아닙니다.

우리는 자주국가의 국민입니다.
